Calling all past pupils of The Old School in The Commons, and ex-miners and their families. We are pleased to announce that the renovated Old School will house a number of museums to include a mining, music and old school recollections when completed.
We are interested in displaying artifacts (i.e. photographs, memorabilia, recollections of school days, details of local musicians and articles connecting to the mines etc.) in these museums.
We are grateful that the renovation is greatly grant aided but we have a shortfall and are running several events over the coming months. We would appreciate if you could support these events and if you choose to make a donation please contact: Annie Heaphy or Alice Teehan of The Commons.
If you have any old photographs or other items you would like to have displayed please contact Dan O' Connell, Ballingarry or Margaret O' Brien, The Commons and these will be copied and returned to you. It would please us to have a database with names and details of ex pupils of the school available on request. In order to do this we need to make contact with pupils who have moved away from the area. If you are interested in being included in this database please contact us. The email address is oldschoolcommons@gmail.com or you can email ballingarryparishjournal@gmail.com and your details will be passed on to relevant persons.
Because of demand for the mining DVD we have produced some more and these are available at Slieveardagh C.I.T.E. and in local shops and pubs. Thanking you all for your support in buying these DVD’s & wishing everyone a very happy New Year.
Contact with the school is by email: oldschoolcommons@gmail.com or dropping in on Thur for 11am-1pm.
