Holy Water
We have purchased a new
Holy Water Barrel. It has a tap to make it easy to fill your water
bottles. It is placed in the side
porch (Church Lane Side). You can
get to it from the main body of the Church anytime the Church is open. Please bring your own bottle. Holy
Water renews the grace of our Baptism.
Introducing the New Missal – To assist our preparation for changes
in some of the words that we pray at Mass from September next, please see the
question and answer below. In
addition, you may wish to view the brief video and further explanations
which are now available on www.catholicbishops.ie. Related topics on the new edition of
the Roman Missal are also on www.liturgy-ireland.ie.
Is the Mass changing?
The structure of the Mass is not changing. The
order and the actions of the Mass remain unchanged. The readings at Mass are
not changed. However, with the introduction of the new edition of the Roman
Missal throughout the English-speaking world, we will all notice a change in
how the Mass sounds. The translations of a number of our prayer texts from the
original Latin have changed – sometimes by a particular word or in the
word order. Prayers that we have become used to reciting by memory now have to
be relearned. Prayers that we are used to hearing the priest say will sound
different to us.
The style of language we will hear and pray
may seem more formal to us and perhaps, in parts, more complex. But over time,
with the praying of these texts, the sound of the Mass will again become
familiar to us.
What is the Roman Missal?
The term ÔMissalÕ is used to refer to the book that
contains all the prayers and instructions for the celebration of the Mass. The
Missal is first written in Latin and this Latin text is then translated into
the particular language of the people. In this way, while the Mass may be
celebrated in many languages across the Roman Catholic world, it is the same
core Latin text that is being prayed by
the Church. We have been using our current Missal since St PatrickÕs Day 1975.
It is sometimes referred to as the Missal of Pope Paul VI. Now we have a new
edition of that Missal.

Famine 1848 Walk
Rev Ian
Cruickshank, Rector of Kilcooley and Crohane, will lead this year's Famine 1848
Walk. The Walk which takes place on Saturday, 30 July at 3pm

several of them from the Protestant tradition, were transported to Van Diemen's
Land. The Walk will begin at the National Flag Monument in The Commons and
proceed to the Famine Warhouse at Farranrory Upper. The distance of 1 1/2 miles
will be covered at an easy pace. Refreshments will be served at the end of the

Coolquill A.C.
Last Saturday
evening 9th July, Coolquill hosted the County Junior and Masters
Road Championships, in what turned out to be perfect conditions. We had a number of men competing in the
masters 6k event. Our first man
home was Dermot Logue with a great effort in 9th place. Next we had Donal Horgan in 19th,
followed by Tadhg Vaughan in 22nd, Andrew Galloway in 27th
& Jim McDonnell in 35th.
These lads were competing on the O/35 & upwards team that finished
in fifth place in a hotly contested event. Also in this race, the O/50 & upwards
titles were up for grabs. Leading
home this team was Leslie Smyth & in doing so, won the O/55 individual gold
with a great running. We had a
terrific performance from Martin Ivors, who came through to take individual
bronze O/55 & with strong running from Jack Alexander, who put in another
great effort, the three lads won the team silver medals. Eddie Cahalan, who is improving with
each run, came away with the silver in the O/60.
Many
thanks to the Presentation Secondary School for allowing the use of their
facilities & to the ladies for the tea afterwards. On Sunday, the Tipperary leg of the
Munster Hill running championships was staged in Kilcommon,
where Ross Alexander put in a sterling performance to come second over the
line.
