Holy Water renews the grace of our Baptism.

Community & Society

Christmas Lights 2011 – a FIRST

A huge crowd turned out for our first ever

Christmas Lights in the village of Ballingarry

being turned on following Mass at 7 pm on

Saturday 3rd December 2011. First of all, the

Church Choir entertained us with their singing,

and Fr. Quirke PP blessed the lights from the

steps of the Church, while the honour of turning on the lights went to the oldest person in Ballingarry Parish, Bridie Maher, who turned 100 on the 3rd

Sept. last. Right on cue, following a countdown

from 10, the beautiful lights came on when the remote control button was pressed. Well done

once again to Imelda and her team of helpers

who brought this project to fruition, and organised

the refreshments afterwards at ÒJimmyÕsÓ.

Coolquill A.C.

The County Senior cross country was held last Sunday near Goolds Cross, hosted

by Dundrum A/c. On a dry but cold day, it was perfect for cross country running

on a testing course. We had seven men on the start line for the 10k event. We saw

a great run from Ross Alexander, who put in a determined effort as he fought hard

for sixth place. Our second man home for us was John Russell, who stayed on well for 25th, followed closely by Michael Carey in 27th who also had a strong run. Our fourth man was Matt Alexander who as usual stayed on strongly for 31st. Our second team were led by Andrew Smyth in 32nd, and then came Tadhg Vaughan in 38th which was a big improvement on last year and our latest member Gordon Cooke made up the squad in 42nd, when making his debut over the sod and hopefully keeping it going into the New Year. These lads claimed the bronze medals in the B section. This just leaves us to wish all our supporters and friends a happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.
