Holy Water

We have purchased a new Holy Water Barrel. It has a tap to make it easy to fill your water bottles.  It is placed in the side porch (Church Lane Side).  You can get to it from the main body of the Church anytime the Church is open.  Please bring your own bottle. Holy Water renews the grace of our Baptism.

Introducing the New Missal – To assist our preparation for changes in some of the words that we pray at Mass from September next, please see the question and answer below.  In addition, you may wish to view the brief video and further explanations which are now available on www.catholicbishops.ie.  Related topics on the new edition of the Roman Missal are also on www.liturgy-ireland.ie.

Is the Mass changing?

The structure of the Mass is not changing. The order and the actions of the Mass remain unchanged. The readings at Mass are not changed. However, with the introduction of the new edition of the Roman Missal throughout the English-speaking world, we will all notice a change in how the Mass sounds. The translations of a number of our prayer texts from the original Latin have changed – sometimes by a particular word or in the word order. Prayers that we have become used to reciting by memory now have to be relearned. Prayers that we are used to hearing the priest say will sound different to us.

The style of language we will hear and pray may seem more formal to us and perhaps, in parts, more complex. But over time, with the praying of these texts, the sound of the Mass will again become familiar to us.

What is the Roman Missal?

The term ÔMissalÕ is used to refer to the book that contains all the prayers and instructions for the celebration of the Mass. The Missal is first written in Latin and this Latin text is then translated into the particular language of the people. In this way, while the Mass may be celebrated in many languages across the Roman Catholic world, it is the same core Latin text that is being prayed by the Church. We have been using our current Missal since St PatrickÕs Day 1975. It is sometimes referred to as the Missal of Pope Paul VI. Now we have a new edition of that Missal.

Congratulations are due to players, parents and mentors of  teams at this time. Pride of place goes to our u12's who won the south final in a close game v Carrick Swan last Sunday. Our u15's won the preliminary round of the Munster Super -touch blitz on Saturday last, while our u8's and u10's entertained  teams from 4 counties: Galway, Cork and Kilkenny, and all reported an enjoyable fun day with lots of hurling and goodwill. Well done to all involved. Congratulations also to all our members who got their Junior Cert results during the week.

Coolquill A.C.

Last Sunday there was a four mile road race in Templemore which took in some track, trail and road running and was most enjoyable and well organised. We saw a great victory for our own Ross Alexander as he powered home across the line for an impressive victory. Our next man to finish was Mick Carey with a much improved run to finish 6th. We then had Matt Alexander and Andrew Smyth both finishing in the top 15 places and good performances. Soon after we had a trio charging to the line with Leslie Smyth, Martin Ivors and Jack Alexander finishing strongly and happy with their efforts. Very soon now the cross country will be upon us so we hope all the lads will keep it going as Oct 3rd is approaching quickly with the County Novice on that date.
