A biography of Father John Kenyon - the Rebel Priest has been published by Tim Boland. Kenyon was
the Templederry Parish Priest who refused the request
of William Smith O'Brien to lead out the forces of North Tipperary in support
of the Young Ireland rebels at Ballingarry. As Meagher, Dillon and Leyne left Chapel House,Templederry, Kenyon deemed the approaching rising 'a
bootless struggle', and wrote in his parish registar
'This evening I have heard of a rebellion in South Tipperary - may God speed
it.' The book deals with the Young Ireland Movement, and for the first time
explains why Kenyon refused to become involved at the final crucial
moment. This book will be reviewed in 'The Irish Catholic' on Jan 5th.
