Congratulations
Sr.
Aloysius OÕ Mahony: Sunday, April 10th was a red Letter Day in Presentation
Convent, Thurles: Sr. Aloysius crossed the Rubicon of her 100th
birthday and surrounded by family and friends, entered wholeheartedly into the
festivities.
Sr. Aloysius (Anne OÕ Mahony)
was born in Ballingarry on the 10th April 1911, the fourth in a
family of six. Her cousin Fr. Noel
Hanrahan, reminded us in his homily that Sr. Aloysius was 5 years old when the
Rising of 1916 occurred.
Two of the four boys became priests (Fr. Michael SJ., Melbourne, Australia & Fr. John, Archdiocese of
Cashel and Emly) and the two girls Mary & Anne became Presentation
Sisters. Martin followed in his
father MichaelÕs footsteps, also becoming Principal in Mohober N.S. Dick settled in Dublin and is hale and
hearty at 97 and attended the celebrations in Thurles.
Sr. Aloysius made her First Profession on 09th
May 1931, so not only has she celebrated her 100th birthday but will
celebrate the 80th anniversary of her religious profession on May 09th.
As Sr. Aloysius celebrates her 100th birthday
and the milestone of 80 years professed, the people of Ballingarry congratulate
her and wish her continued good health.
