Joe Goldsboro R.I.P.

Joe Goldsboro

Though he was failing in health for some time, never the less Joe Goldsboro’s unexpected death caused widespread grief.  When people recovered from their first sense of shock they slowly realised the truth that the pillar of the parish was gone.  They realised their great loss that he would not be around anymore.  Joe was a great community worker and gave his time freely to so many causes in the parish.
Joe had many interests and hobbies in life, but he had a very special love for hurling and football, and was a keen supporter of all parish teams.  He gave a lifelong service to the G.A.A. being a skillful hurler in his youth playing in goal.  Later he was an efficient and impartial umpire.  At the end of a distinguished playing career Joe became active on the administrative side of the club and was club co-ordinator for the Tipperary G.A.A. members draw until failing health caused him to retire a short time before his death.  When the old national school became vacant Joe and a few others formed a committee and started Bingo in Ballingarry which is still going strong 27 years later in the Parish hall and Joe helped out to the end.  Joe was a member of the Commons Marca na Feirme and took part in drama and concerts with same.  Joe was involved in the Board of Management if Lisnamrock N.S. and was a great fundraiser for them.  Music was a great love of Joe’s, he played the accordion and mouth organ and often gave us a tune on the piano after bingo.  He was also a member of the Parish Choir.  Other groups within the parish which Joe played an active role where Coalbrook Water Scheme, Parish Field Committee, Parish Hall and Parish Finance Committee.  And before the FÁS scheme he kept the grass cut in the two cemeteries.  Many charitable organisations and worthy causes benefitted by his help, with Church gate collections often may I add in very bad weather conditions.
Joe spent many of his working years with Avonmore Co-op, where his pleasing manner and pleasant smile made him a favourite with customers and staff.  Joe was very much a family man he was devoted to his wife Nuala and their children.  His generosity knew no bounds and he will be sadly missed by his neighbours, friends and anyone who had the privilege of working with him on various committees as I had.  Joe will be remembered as a man who in his short life and in his own way expressed the ideal of service to his community.  This is a great conciliation to his family in their grief.  They will miss him but they can cherish that memory.
Our sympathy goes to Nuala, son, daughters, brother, sisters and all his relatives.

Dick Vaughan

Joe
The depth of his love was unending
He gave all he had, even more
A lust for life and laughter
A man sincere to his core
Nothing was ever a problem
Best side was always out
A smile lit up his dancing eyes
Then that light went out
I miss him so much so his heart of gold
A life lived without regret
A void in our lives so much pain in our hearts
For the Dad we will never forget
